Vision:
- the Institute will facilitate CUHK to continue playing the role as a first-class university in the world. Interdisciplinary field of study relating AI with many other important fields, the Institute will not only carry out the most innovative research but also train young researchers worldwide.
- The Institute establishes itself in embracing Mainland China and connecting the world under the umbrella of the Laboratory. Engaging researchers from Hong Kong and all over the world to participate the ongoing projects from the Laboratory including but not limited to:
- Generic AI models that integrates computer vision and natural language processing
- AI system security
- AI for the diagnosis or treatment of various diseases, e.g. dementia
- AI to assist natural resource management and
- Explore mathematical theories for explaining the working mechanism of deep neural networks
Mission:
- To advance AI and interdisciplinary research and to promote innovations in a broad range of fields.
- To serve as a platform for a deeper and wider strategic research collaboration among the Laboratory, CUHK, and other oversea and domestic institutes, as well as the industry.
- To serve as the AI research hub in the Great Bay Area and engage in other research organizations construction nation and international wide.
- To set up an agile and adaptable hiring mechanism to attract young researchers with potential and distinguished talents and aim for higher academic breakthrough.
- To create an accessible and practical learning-through-practising base for students from CUHK with joint guidance from the Laboratory and CUHK.
